Pilates was developed by the late Joseph Pilates who pioneered a mind body conditioning exercise programme to target the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine.

The goal is to improve posture and central core stability through a series of exercises designed to realize each persons physical capabilities and limitations but enabling them to target muscle imbalance and weakness.

Pilates exercises are based on key principles which are applied to a wide range of mat and equipment exercise.

Pilates exercises, if performed on a regular basis, will help to improve muscle tone and positively alter body shape by emphasizing the stabilization of the body’s ‘central core’ around which all movement are performed. Pilates focuses on activating the deep postural muscles and combines breathing sequences and postural correction with suppleness and flexibility.

The key aims of Pilates:

Create an awareness of strength and dynamic stability
Improve posture and body awareness
Improve general fitness
Assist injury prevention
Improve balance, muscle strength and flexibility
Relief from lower back and neck pane

Pilates is recommended for men and women of all ages who are interested in improving their total fitness, posture and well being.
